Summary:
The responsibilities for this position include identifying and developing innovative human factors solutions for commercial-grade Software products. Primary tasks include providing usability and UI design support for software product user-interfaces; requiring close collaboration with Engineering and Marketing teams
The Usability Engineer works closely with multidisciplinary teams and is responsible for delivering usable (effective, efficient, satisfying & safe) interface designs across commercial software products through applying user-centered, iterative design process. The Usability Engineer collects behavioral data from end users & customers to identify problems, and/or insights that impact product design and development. The successful candidate will have experience employing a broad range of data collection and analytical techniques such as survey construction/analysis, UI prototype development, usability testing, focus group facilitation and qualitative/observational methods, ethnography, and quantitative statistical data analysis.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Translates data into usable design solutions and leverages results to spark focused design efforts. Integrates Human Factors Engineering principles to the design & development process, accounting for perceptual, physical and cognitive abilities in the usage of products and services.
Produces specifications, standards, user requirements as applied to Product Design and Development
Represents the needs and preferences of the end user throughout the design and development process.
Has broad accountability for the user experience, from initial set-up/install through the product lifecycle.
Defines and executes the necessary behavioral studies to guide the design process (e.g.; yielding qualitative and quantitative data)
Performs a variety of data analysis techniques to surface insights that are actionable and can be applied to the design process.
Works with cross-functional development teams to design products (Marketing, Engineering, Quality, etc.)
Delivers the necessary artifacts to capture the intended user experience to implementation/engineering entities (e.g.; specification, guidelines, prototypes, UI designs etc.)
Presents test results to development teams and executive leadership to guide and drive the business in accordance with corporate strategies.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate level degree in HCI, Human Factors, Behavioral Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
Experience applying Usability/HF methods and principles to the Enterprise or commercial grade software tools/applications
Experience working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including external agencies. Works closely with Usability, Marketing, and Software development implementation disciplines
Proven track record of crafting innovative & usable user-centered designs
Experience developing UI specifications & guidelines
Experience in experimental design (surveys, field studies, statistical analysis, & usability testing)
Ability to operate under tight date-driven schedules & manage multiple programs
Excellent written, verbal, and executive-level presentation skills
Excellent teamwork & leadership skills
