Duties & Responsibilities Member of the Product Team of the Common Alumni Affairs and Development Systems (CAADS) which is responsible for the university-wide support of the CAADS suite of applications including SunGard Higher Education's Advance, the Harris Connect Alumni Portal, the phonathon system (SmartCall) and the Harvard University Inquiry Engine for AA&D. Conduct interviews to assist in analyzing the need for new/enhanced functionality within the system as well as to identify workflow issues and propose solutions. Participate in all aspects of production support, upgrades, and new projects implementation. Create/review/update specifications, write and execute test plans, collaborate with the Practice team, and assist training team with drafting policies and procedures. Perform work within a set release schedule. Coordinate with vendors as necessary. Collaborate with Senior Project Manager to develop project plans and manage communication to project teams, vendors, and key stakeholders. Work independently to execute assigned tasks. Maintain functional documentation including but not limited to application overviews, requirement specifications, and user guides. Works with internal clients to refine requirements. Writes thorough test plans based on requirements and use cases. Performs unit and system testing to ensure complete accuracy prior to implementing any change4s into a production environment. Support the phonathon system (SmartCall) including writing requirements for new enhancements, testing, user support, product upgrades, and reporting product defects to the vendor. Provide end-user support. Provide functional support during project go-lives, which may include occasional evening or weekend work. The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the level of the position.
Basic Qualifications Graduate from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree required, preferably with coursework in information systems or information technology. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a technical environment; knowledge of relational databases, Oracle and SQL. Strong working knowledge of alumni affairs and Development systems required, preferably with SunGard Higher Education's Advance product. Ability to synthesize business issues into technical solutions. Detail-oriented and familiar with best practices for testing and product lifecycles. Excellent customer service skills. Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office desktop tools such as Word and Excel; the ability to become proficient with the Harvard Development Systems.
Additional Qualifications Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment. Experience working in an academic environment. Communicates effectively with technical staff and non-technical staff. Superb organizational skills. Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change. Ability to manage multiple tasks under competing deadlines and shifting priorities. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with experience writing functional requirements and an appreciation for structured development techniques in conjunction with software release management processes. Public speaking and presentation skills required. Must be conscious of data security and risk management. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Able to work effectively with internal and external constituencies in a University environment. Adept at evaluating problems accurately and displaying sound and confidential judgment. Must have an even disposition and be able to work effectively and politely with all people from all types of backgrounds and experience and in all types of situations.
