Duties & Responsibilities
Please note: This position is also posted at a grade 60, only one position will be filled. The grade level will be determined based upon the level of experience and skill set of the successful candidate.

The Director of Systems Management Services role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the System Management function and to effect the orderly integration and consolidation of hosting services, and systems management services across HUIT by fostering the adoption of a consistent set of operational processes and procedures across the organization. Will work closely with the leadership in Server Systems, Storage, and Data Centers to ensure that effective governance models are in place to support successful technology and organizational transitions, and that technology implementations, workforce/human resources programs, and department policies lead to the delivery of high-quality, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure services and high levels of customer satisfaction. The Director of Systems Management Services will oversee the development and deployment of change management methodologies and procedures to guide the transition process. This individual will apply proven leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of university directives and HUIT business goals.

Strategy & Planning
· Work with senior management and stakeholders to establish transition strategies & approaches that meet organization objectives and goals.
· Key contributor on a senior team that will lead the transformation to a new organizational structure that promotes teamwork and collaboration
· Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business and operations requirements and Service Level Agreements.
· Perform detailed problem analyses and scenarios; make, propose, and implement recommendations to mitigate change risk and business impact of transition activities.
· Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed changes to aid senior management in making key implementation and transition decisions.
· Develop methodologies/processes that support the monitoring of change control successes in areas targeted for transition and/or improvement.
· Develop plans & schedules for specific organizational, technology, & service changes in order to support university and HUIT objectives and business goals.
Analysis & Assessment
· Assess existing environments & service delivery platforms and recommend new or improved technologies, standards, practices, policies, and procedures (as appropriate) to support a new (integrated) managed services environment.
· Works with local management to assess and recommend the priority of projects/staff assignments and allocation of resources
· Investigate and deploy software tools that track and support change management, as well as requests for change.
· Analyze and recommend (and implement as appropriate) metrics for departmental and staff performance
Basic Qualifications


B.S. or B.A. degree in the field of business administration, information systems, or computer science.
10-15 years of progressive IT-related work experience which includes management of major enterprise-level computing infrastructure, preferably in higher education, with the most recent five (5) years demonstrating a progression in management experience to the senior level

Knowledge & Experience
· Proven comfort-level with managing people, process, and technology to achieve significant organizational goals.
· Demonstrated experience with all aspects of computing infrastructure, including IP networks; Unix, WinTel, & Linux Systems; Enterprise Backup, Storage, & Archiving platforms; and Enterprise-level data centers.
· Working knowledge of current IT security issues, products, methods, and practices and demonstrated ability to lead and manage security initiatives across all aspects of enterprise computing infrastructure.
· Proven experience with change management practices, process flow analysis, and methodology development.
· Experience managing the design, development, and implementation of major technology-related changes in support of significant organization (business) programs
· Internal or external consulting skills in assessing, analyzing, and synthesizing technology issues across a broad range of departmental environments.
· Familiarity with the ITIL Service Management and Change Management standards.
· Strong understanding of business processes, with a flair for business administration and human capital management.
· Demonstrated level of emotional intelligence and understanding of organizational behavior/psychology.
· Able to efficiently perform organizational cultural analysis and create change strategies that are flexible and adaptive.
· Demonstrated strong project management and project management software skills.
· Demonstrated ability to simplify highly technical topics
· Keen ability to balance setting strategy with execution, willingness to be hands-on
· Highly consultative, strong project manager, team leader/mentor, effective written / verbal communicator

· Deep experience building and leveraging relationships across an institution using a collaborative leadership style with success in motivating a service-oriented team
· Effective communication at all levels - staff, clients, executive, vendors - and to diverse constituencies both technical and non- technical
Ability to work well under pressure and adapt easily to changing situations and priorities

Additional Information
Additional duties and requirements:

Operational Management
· Ensure that established and/or generally accepted methodologies/processes are utilized in managing all forms of change.
· Coordinate with key stakeholders in planning and executing critical service transitions.
· Build an understanding of existing business models and service level agreements/key performance metrics, and work to ensure they are maintained (or enhanced) as transitions proceed.
· Provide project management support for major initiatives involving organizational, service, and logistical changes.
· Communicate change management procedures to senior managers; develop materials dedicated to stakeholder and end-user awareness of change and transition issues.
· Communicate transition changes, service enhancements, and other modifications – verbally and/or through written documentation – to management, staff, and other employees so that all plans and issues are well understood.
· Collaborate with all IT staff and other key stakeholders (as appropriate) to ensure that proper change controls are in place.
· Ensure that documented test plans are in place and executed as a part of all critical infrastructure transitions, and that contingency and/or backout plans are also documented and executed (when necessary).
