Duties & Responsibilities Reporting to the Manager of Systems and Infrastructure Engineering, the Sr. Systems Administrator will be responsible for working in a team of technical professionals in the deployment and 24/7 support of applications and server service operations for the School’s academic and administrative computing platforms. Primary responsibilities include: OS & Hardware support of windows and UNIX/Linux based application server infrastructure; software/hardware installation & configuration, troubleshooting, patching, tuning & resource allocation. Additional responsibilities include the administration, configuration and support of a production VMWare vSphere 4 Virtualization Service; IBM Tivoli backup and EMC Data-domain VTL. This position works as part of a team and is expected to make suggestions and take initiative in the strategic IT and systems operational planning and design of infrastructure for the school. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is expected. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. 7+ years of Unix and Windows Systems Administration experience and advanced knowledge of operating systems. Must possess a strong technical background in Windows/Unix server and application architecture, design and deployment in a cross platform environment (Unix/Windows/MacOS). Experience is required in: Windows/Unix & MacOS based resource integration into AD/NIS including authentication. Advanced working knowledge of standards & protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, SMTP, RPC, SMTP, Apache and SAN/NAS, monitoring technologies. Advanced hands-on expertise in: Exchange 2010, Windows/Linux admin, file systems, package deployment, PHP, Perl, Python, MySQL, Posgress, cron, syslog, rsync, monitoring, DNS, authentication, clustering, permissions/ACLs, data encryption and custom port configuration. Strong scripting skills a must. Highly desirable complimentary skills: Advanced Windows & HPC Linux systems administration skills. Must be an innovative problem-solver.
Additional Qualifications Master's degree preferred. Commitment to collaborate within a strong team-oriented environment across multiple simultaneous initiatives. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deliver custom scripting/automation of routine administrative tasks through utility script development and application scripting technologies including interoperability and migration support with legacy and external systems. Experience with media technologies, services and streaming a significant plus. Requires occasional lifting (50 lbs). Experience in a higher education environment highly desired. Experience in Microsoft Visio and Microsoft project preferred.
