The Director, Business Development has the responsibility to deliver innovations created within the CTO Unit into Nokia's product and services business units. The focus is to bring differentiating future technologies and disruptions to market to maximize Nokia's growth and profit. Different from other BD charters within Nokia, this position will first consider opportunities related to organic R&D first; and, second, if Nokia's strategic needs cannot be met though our R&D investments will consider inorganic growth initiatives.

The position mandate is to shape initiatives throughout the R&D lifecycle to become more applied to the business and market perspective. In addition to being well apprised of the status of bleeding-edge technology in the market, the responsibilities of the position include identifying & managing technology partnerships and where appropriate the development of new business models. As a potentially differentiating and/or disruptive technology matures within the CTO Unit, the position works to transfer the technology to the appropriate business unit. The position also supports the CTO on business and market-related topics and initiatives.

Key task areas (in order of importance)
· "First chair" position on important strategic technology projects for CTO
· Directly interface with senior members of the Nokia Business Units
· Oversight of multi-disciplinary team (including other BD members, Finance, Legal, LSUs, BU representatives)
· Drive internal business development to deliver R&D innovations into Nokia BUs
· Drive external business development to establish required ecosystems and partnerships to foster and propagate R&D innovations
· Explore new business opportunities and markets
· Prepare investment proposals and create business models/plans
· Help shape R&D projects and initiatives to maximize market impact
Drive technology outlicensing for CTO unit

Minimum 10-12 years relevant experience in mobile services, devices and/or internet-based technology business

Demonstrable success in leading major business development projects as "first chair"
MBA, JD, MS or Ph.D, a big plus
