Dr. Chou's laboratory studies the regulation of inflammatory responses mediated by cytokines, chemokines, and their receptors in different diseases. These cytokines and chemokines interact with each other to form an intricate immune network. The chemokines also act as guides to direct cells through specific tissues. The cytokine-chemokine networking is not only critical for host defense against pathogens, but also contributes to the development of inflammatory diseases. The lab uses mouse models as well as human samples (mainly blood samples) to study the functional roles of specific cytokines and chemokines in eliciting immune and inflammatory responses.
