Description

The candidate will be part of the UMG SEG (Ultra Mobile Group Software Enabling Group) team responsible for embedded software development on prototype platforms to be used across multiple SoC platforms in multiple Intel Business Units.

We are seeking a self-motivated Software Engineer who likes identifying and solving problems and has a background in embedded, pre-silicon and/or prototype platform software development. Strong written and verbal skills to document, implement, and integrate software with hardware development teams in a Linux environment.

This position involves working with SoC pre-silicon, prototype and production platform development environments. In this position, the responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working with the hardware teams in a pre-silicon environment to determine if the hardware is working as expected.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on assigned components for both hardware and software architecture and design, including code reviews.
- Design, Code and Debug solutions to ultimately create production code to include with embedded OS distributions for the Netbook, tablet and smart-phone market.
- Participating in performance analysis code development in a Linux embedded environment
- Creating code builds, executing performance tests and collecting information for these builds to determine optimizations required to achieve best overall platform performance.

Being an excellent team player with the ability to work within a small team is key. The successful candidate must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, be able to operate independently and multiplex time between tasks

Qualifications

You should possess a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering degree and currently pursuing a Master or Ph.D. in Computer or Electrical Engineering.

- General PC architecture
- Education in embedded development, hardware interaction (register and MMIO), and pre-silicon or prototype platform development environments
- System-level debugging
- C/C++ and object oriented coding skills.

Preferred requirements:
- Knowledge of the software development process.
- Knowledge of Linux OS and driver internals and experience with USB and other serial protocols and concepts (USB2, USB3, RS422, RS485, EHCI) as well as peripheral component interconnect (PCI) desirable.
- Debug and development experience with Linux kernel debuggers (kgdb) and embedded Linux environments, bootloader and system BIOS development experience a plus.
- Ability to read and understand hardware block diagrams and schematics
- Strong system knowledge for how machine characteristics affect software complexity.
