Senior Sales Engineer

Job Purpose:

The Sales Engineer supports the local sales consulting teams in selling Pega PRPC technology and industry framework solutions. The role is EMEA-wide and is part of the global Sales Engineering group which consists of on and off shore resources supporting teams across North America, EMEA, and APAC. The team is responsible for:
Developing and maintaining standard demos based on PRPC and associated frameworks, and further customizing these to specific prospective customer requirements (typically offsite)

Implementing short “Proof of Concept” engagements at customer sites to investigate the viability of implementing Pega solutions within a prospective customer’s existing technical environment. (typically onsite)

Technical investigations involving building working prototypes that demonstrate Pega technology interacting with other standard technologies.

Conducting technical workshops, walk throughs and presentations with customers
Developing innovative new uses for Pega technology and feeding these back into the product
The role also provides the opportunity to collaborate directly with Sales Consultants, Account Executives, Pega Architects, the Product Frameworks groups, and Product Engineering

The role will also involve frequent face-to-face contact with customers and partners and requires the ability to explain technical concepts and designs to IT personnel. You can expect to achieve PRPC certification in the course of fulfilling this role. In addition, the position also offers the opportunity to develop along a number of career paths, including Sales Consultant, Sales Architect, Sales Engineering Fellow or management tracks.

This role requires the ability to think and code fast, work under tight deadlines, in stressful situations and changing circumstances. It will appeal to someone who likes playing with new technologies and pushing their limits, who prefers agile development methodologies to more slower paced and structured development, but is nonetheless mindful of good software development patterns and practices.

Key Result Areas:
Partner with the Sales Team to achieve defined sales goals.
Be the focal support for all Sales Consulting & Account Executives for customized demonstration build as well as building customer proofs of concept, both on- and off-site.
Own the design and build of business prototypes
Work closely with Sales Consulting group to deliver world class demonstrations
Develop a deep knowledge of the PRPC product as well as Pega’s horizontal and industry frameworks
Ability to install and configure PRPC on Tomcat, Websphere and Weblogic.
Delivery and creation of technical demonstrations
Propose technical solutions in support of sales campaigns.
Occasionally present technical aspects of proposed solutions to prospective clients.
Work with the Sales Engineering, Sales Architecture, Product Frameworks and Product Engineering groups to accomplish the technical goals.
Assist in the recruitment and mentoring of staff so as to meet the demands of the department.

Critical Competencies

Functional Expertise:
Technical experience:
Full ability to understand complex data reationships and rules-based systems.
Must have JAVA, JEE, HTML, Javascript experience.
Have experience in database design, SQL, XML, systems integration (e.g. JMS, web services, etc.)
Experience with application servers such as WebSphere, Weblogic or Tomcat (installation and configuration)
Experience with BPM products, rules engines or Decisioning technologies a plus
Experience with any of the following a plus: Eclipse or similar IDEs, web UI frameworks such as Struts, JSF, AJAX, CTI, Reporting/Business Intelligence tools, workflow solutions, document management, case management solutions.
Must learn PRPC in expected timeframe.
Must become the functional expert in the industry frameworks you will be supporting

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education: BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience; Technical degree or equivalent. Advance degree a plus.

Type of Experience and Minimum Number of Years: 3 - 5 years industry related experience. Detailed knowledge of Pega-like products and Services.
Strong English language competency plus knowledge of other European languages a plus.

Travel Requirements – 50 to 75% - travel to and work on client/other sites
