Position Purpose: Performs a wide variety of techniques including but not limited to RNA extraction and analysis, PCR for genotyping, preparation of cell cultures for in vivo and in vitro experiments, mouse surgery, processing and analysis of experimental specimens for RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and microscopy.

Dr. Chou's laboratory studies the regulation of inflammatory responses mediated by cytokines, chemokines, and their receptors in different diseases. These cytokines and chemokines interact with each other to form an intricate immune network. The chemokines also act as guides to direct cells through specific tissues. The cytokine-chemokine networking is not only critical for host defense against pathogens, but also contributes to the development of inflammatory diseases. The lab uses mouse models as well as human samples (mainly blood samples) to study the functional roles of specific cytokines and chemokines in eliciting immune and inflammatory responses.

Skills & Knowledge: Competence in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments, e.g. small animal work, tissue culture, immunology, or cellular and molecular laboratory techniques.
Ability to work independently with good judgment and good organizational and time management skills.
Willingness to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
Knowledge of computers and software applications.
